The booklet has 13 pages on what gospel music (as opposed to spiritual music) is and what it represents in the (then) black movement/experience. There are several (small) b&w photos of the choir and one with John Hammond. This album, the only one made by 4/5(5).

Recorded by John Hammond (he discovered Aretha Franklin, signed Bob Dylan to his recording contract and convinced Benny Goodman to employ Charlie Christian), “Shakin’ the Rafters” is an apt title, as the hand-clappin’, testifyin’ choir, and stride-piano influenced piano pounding of leader Alex Bradford (he also sends some choice organ chords aloft) reinforce the exhortations of the various /5(24).
