Jun 29,  · Morrissey is back in the news, shrouded in controversy. It made me assess his catalogue as a massive fan (of his music). I wanted to see if others are fans and if so, how your ranking of his albums compare to mine. Remember: Bona Drag is not an album. The Smith's were wonderful and Morrissey was able to put together a great album/CD after their demise. He picked some great musician's for this venture.

Viva Morrissey Released in , not long after the Smiths' break-up, Viva Hate is Morrissey's first solo album. Co-written with Smiths producer Stephen Street (Street wrote the music, Morrissey the lyrics), it was received warmly by critics and fans alike (though in Morrissey's case these two demographics often overlap).

Onto the original album, Viva Hate was not a strong start to Morrissey. Sure, it had some absolutely brilliant tracks, like "Everyday is Like Sunday", "Late Night, Maudlin Street", or "Suedehead", but it also had a good number of poor tracks, like "Margaret on the Guillatine", or "Ordinary Boys"/5(31).

But then that's probably how Morrissey meant it. 'Viva Hate' was his first solo record, and one which was recorded a mere six months after The Smiths hit the bricks. He was hurt and betrayed, hence the album's title 'Viva Hate' But rather than fill the record with spite, Morrissey instead retreated into his past, back to his own poverty.

May 22,  · 'Viva Hate' released off the backbone of all that Smiths chaos of , is Morrissey finally going solo, showing he can do it on his own and boy does he give it a great effort. Filled with an abundance of those self-pitying lyrics we came and loved to know Morrissey for in The Smiths/5(92).

In the end, 'Viva Hate' is Morrissey's most moving album, made when he was at his saddest and most unsure of himself. It's a brilliant, towering classic and an album that will forever sit in my top ten albums /5.
